New USB Capable Devices from Oak Micros (ZX-24nu/ZX-24pu)

Post by mikep »

Oak Micros is pleased to announce two new USB capable ZBasic integrated microcontrollers called the ZX-24nu and ZX-24pu. These are "second generation" devices where the “u” suffix in the name denotes that the device has USB capability for downloading application code and for host PC serial communications. The ZX-24nu and ZX-24pu are plugin replacements for the previous ZX-24ne and ZX-24pe respectively that had a RS232 serial port.

The devices use an ATmega644p on a compact 0.7" x 2.0" circuit board that can be plugged into a standard 40-pin 600mil socket. See the Technical Reference for more details. Version 2.8 or greater is needed for the ZBasic Installer. The ZX-24nu and ZX-24pu have the following integrated features:
  • 28 I/O pins (32 for ZX-24nu) in a socketable, breadboard-friendly format.
  • USB mini-B receptacle for downloading application code and for host PC serial communications using industry-standard FTDI USB UART. A suitable cable is available as an option.
  • Program memory of 64K bytes in SPI EEPROM for ZX-24pu or 60K bytes Flash for ZX-24nu.
  • 3.5K bytes of user RAM (up to 4K for ZX-24nu) and 2016 bytes of user EEPROM.
  • Transmit and receive monitor LEDs for host communications.
  • Self-powered mode from USB port eliminates requirement for external power.
  • Red power monitor LED.
  • 5V power regulator with 600mA capacity for stand-alone use.
  • Red and green active low port I/O port LED monitors (and yellow active high for ZX-24nu only).
  • I2C and SPI bus support using breadboard-friendly I/O pins.
The ZX-24nu and ZX-24pu are priced the same as their predecessors at $59.95 for single quantities.
