ZX_24 to HP 82440A printer

ZX_24 to HP 82440A printer

I just purchased several New-in-Box HP 82440A(RedEye) printers at a great price and would like to interface them to some of my ZBasic projects. I have no idea how to do this and am looking for a solution. I want to go ZX-24 => ttl serial => IR. Can this be done?

I am reasonably sure the interface protocol is NOT IrDA and most likely predates it by at least 10 years.

Any enlightenment will be appreciated.
