Getting back to my 24.. having problems

The program I had installed months ago, continues to send messages out the com port. However, when I attempt to download a new program, I get:

Device failed to respond to ATN signal on COM1.
ZBasic v1.3
.. my program continues..

I then tried to upgrade to the newest firmware and received:

Device failed to timely acknowledge record 0.
repeats until time out..

Might I just be doing something (again) really stupid?
I only have xmit/rct/atn/pwr/grd attached...

sounds like ATN (DTR) is working but the timing is failing. Is the PC directly connected via a standard serial port rather than a USB adapter or some such?

Or could it be that the PC's CPU is maxed out doing something else and not able to manage the serial port quickly?

Or the silly stuff: flakey cable, ground loose, etc.

Desktop P4, using the built in port then a usb serial port.. tried to download from a laptip with same results. Tried zload -a, saw appropriate voltages from the PC (+-11). Tried to download with zload. The program that was running stopped, but zload returned "No download ack from device".
If I remove the ack wire, the x24 starts the original program..

The message about failing to respond to ATN suggests that the device either isn't receiving the ATN signal or that something is preventing it from being handled correctly. Your use of zload -a seems to demonstrate that the ATN signal is getting to the device so that leaves the alternate explanation.

We'd be happy to send out a replacement right away to get you up and running again but we would like to get that one back in order to attempt further diagnosis.

Send me an email with the address to which you'd like it sent. By the way, is it a ZX-24 or a ZX-24a?
