Ocean-server Compass

Post by victorf »

I am incorporating this device in my latest project. I plan to supply 3.3volts to pin 3 of it's connector.

Since the device transmits via RS-232 link I plan to incorporate a MAX232A to convert the compass's data stream to TTL. Given the operating voltage of the compass is this conversion necessary? I will be connecting the compass to a ZX-24 on Com3. The compass will be located remote from the ZX-24 by about 2 feet.

Any enlightenment will be appreciated.

It's difficult to tell without a schematic. The first table on p7 indicates that it uses 3V levels which may be a problem. They recommend an adapter on p24 but that appears to be for use with a PC with RS232 voltage levels.
